SUMMARY:Forest Bathing with Melanie Choukas-Bradley
DESCRIPTION:Join Melanie Choukas-Bradley\, author of “The Joy of Forest Bathing\,” “Wild Walking—A Guide to Forest Bathing Through the Seasons\,” “A Year in Rock Creek Park\,” and several other nature books\, for a forest bathing walk through the Tregaron Conservancy. We will meander under tall trees in autumn glory\, cross picturesque bridges over musical streams\, and climb stone steps through a century-old cultivated and wild woodland landscape reminiscent of “the secret garden.” Shinrin-yoku\, or forest bathing\, began in the 1980s in Japan and it is rooted in the traditional Japanese reverence for nature. Forest bathing is a mindfulness practice akin to meditation\, yoga and tai chi that involves tuning in to the beauty and wonder of your natural surroundings with all of your senses. \n\n\n\nMelanie is a nature and forest therapy guide with certification from the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides & Programs and she has participated in guided shinrin-yoku walks throughout Japan. She will guide you on a calming and rejuvenating walk through the Tregaron woodlands.

SUMMARY:Tregaron Landscape Design and History Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Anne Dawson for an in-depth walking tour focusing on Tregaron’s historic landscape designs and the Conservancy’s ongoing work to recapture Ellen Biddle Shipman’s vision. The tour will delve into Shipman’s collaboration with architect Charles Adams Platt on plans for the estate\, the aesthetic principles underlying her original “wild garden” designs\, and the Conservancy’s ongoing work to interpret her plans\, and to restore and rehabilitate the Tregaron landscape within this historic framework. \n\n\n\nAnne Dawson’s interest in the history and design of Tregaron stems from a background in Historic Garden Rehabilitation\, graduate work in Art History and practical work in both landscape and interior design. Living in Cleveland Park since 2004\, she has experienced the enormous changes brought about by the Conservancy in recapturing Ellen Biddle Shipman’s vision and launching sustainability initiatives at Tregaron. As a member of the DC community\, she is interested in sharing the story of this dynamic landscape so that\, as visitors walk the paths\, they can engage more deeply with Tregaron’s designed environment and the nature that enfolds them in this very special place. \n\n\n\nThe group will gather at 3100 Macomb Street NW. Tregaron has mulch trails and moderate elevation changes. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required via the Eventbrite link below. \n\n\n\nWe hope you will also consider making a donation to support our year-round nature walks and help us maintain our historic urban parkland here. \n\n\n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite

SUMMARY:Tai Chi with David Harold – Tuesdays\, Wednesdays\, Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:Beginning on April 2\, the Conservancy will be hosting weekly Tai Chi practice led by David Harold on Tuesdays\, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9-10 a.m. The group will gather west of the Lily Pond (or in the nearby Twin Oak meadow if the Conservancy is hosting another event). The nearest entrance is 3031 Klingle Road NW. \n\n\n\nWeather note: The program will only be canceled in the event of heavy rain\, high winds\, or thunderstorms. Practice is at your own risk; please watch the forecast and exercise prudence. \n\n\n\nNo registration is necessary\, but participants will be required to sign our standard release form at the start of the session. \n\n\n\nDavid Harold has been practicing Taiji and Qigong for over 40 years and teaching for much of that time. He has studied both Yang and Chen styles. He is retired from a career in psychotherapy and human services management. \n\n\n\nDavid is passionate about making Taiji and Qigong practice and principles accessible. For 15 years\, he led a free\, weekly public outdoor practice in Winston-Salem\, NC. That practice continues to be led by his students now that he has moved to DC. David is now particularly interested in using Taiji principles to build embodied peacemaking.
