Historically Significant Land Donated to the Conservancy

May 11, 2015

We are delighted to share the news that the six privately-owned lots that run along side closed Klingle Road were recently donated in full to the Conservancy by the Tregaron Limited Partnership (TLP).  All of this land will now be protected from development in perpetuity.

This conveyance includes historically significant land, including the Grand Staircase (a set of 66 lovely stone stairs that are original to the property) and a portion of the bridle path — both dating back to 1915.  Although the Conservancy did not own this land until recently, it has been maintaining the land since its inception nearly 10 years ago.  The donation will now allow the land to be further improved and restored.photo 3

On April 24, 2015, the Conservancy hosted a ceremony attended by TLP representative Arie Ofri to thank TLP for the donation and to dedicate a bronze plaque in memory of its founder.  The plaque reads:  “In memory of S. N. Eisenberg for generously donating this land to the Tregaron Conservancy for the enjoyment of generations to come.”  At the ceremony, looking out over the restored pond and woodlands, Mr. Ofri remarked that “although TLP originally had other plans for the land, [the Conservancy] was the right outcome.”

The Tregaron Conservancy is enormously grateful to TLP for donating this land.  The Conservancy’s ownership of the estate’s woodlands and gardens is now complete and protected forever, for the enjoyment and benefit of the public.

Tai Chi with David Harold- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays

Free

Weekly Tai Chi Practice led by David Harold on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9-10 a.m. The group will gather west of the Lily Pond (or in the nearby Twin Oak meadow if the Conservancy is hosting another event). The nearest entrance is 3031 Klingle Road NW.

Note: The program will only be canceled in the even of heavy rain, high winds, or thunderstorms, or if David is unavalible. Cancellations will be posted on the pop-up notice on the website home page.

No registration is necessary, but participants will be required to sign our standard release form at the start of the session.

David Harold has been practicing Taiji and Qigong for over 40 years for much of that time. He has studied both in Yang and Chen styles. He is retired from a career in psychotherapy and human services management.

David is passionate about making Taiji and Qigong practice and principles accessible. For 15 years, he led a free, weekly public outdoor practice in Winston-Salem, NC. That practice continues to be led by his students now that he has moved to DC. David is now particularly interested in using Taiji principles to build embodied peacemaking.
