New Map of Tregaron Conservancy

January 14, 2019
Map of Tregaron Conservancy

In 2018, the Conservancy completed a comprehensive assessment of the our system of trails and trail naming. The trail plan for Tregaron is based on the original system of footpaths for the estate (then called “the Causeway”) established by architect Charles Adams Platt and landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman. (Tregaron’s main trail, the Bridle Path, was in fact part of the original landscape of the Twin Oaks estate, dating back to the 1880s. Platt and Shipman used that path as the “spine” of their plan for the Causeway/Tregaron landscape.) We consulted with our expert on historic landscapes, Glenn Stach, in conducting our evaluation of the trail system.

We reopened two original Platt/Shipman-era footpaths in 2017 and 2018  that had been lost for decades. We clarified the naming of other trails based on historic precedents. This project culminated in the creation of a new map that we hope will make visiting Tregaron even easier and more enjoyable.

This year, with the community’s support, we will be developing new informational signs (featuring the new map) for our four entrances. If you are interested in sponsoring this project, we would love to hear from you! Contact Executive Director Lynn Parseghian at lynn@tregaronconservancy.org.
