Starting in the Spring of 2013, a group of children (ages 1 – 5) and their parents began meeting regularly at Tregaron, forming a nature-based playgroup. The all-weather program promoted unstructured play, cooperation and exploration in the natural spaces of the Tregaron Conservancy. Inspiration was drawn from “Forest Kindergartens” started in Germany and Switzerland, as well as similar outdoor playgroups such as “Fog and Shine” in San Francisco. The playgroup met through the spring, summer and fall — playing and enjoying the woodlands and streams of Tregaron.
The group’s motto is: ” . . . there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes” (Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods).
