Saying Thanks to Two Great Friends Who Will Be Missed

June 5, 2007

Two dedicated veterans of the campaign to rescue Tregaron from the ravages of overdevelopment are moving on.  Dick Hall, Head of the Washington International School since 2001, is retiring, and Greg Schmidt, Chair of the Board of Trustees, is leaving that position (although we fervently hope that we don’t lose his good counsel).

At a June 4th  reception at the WIS Mansion in Dick’s honor, Tregaron Conservancy Chair Bonnie LePard saluted both men for their hard work to help devise an equitable compromise over Tregaron’s fate among the competing interests of the school, the developers, and the Friends of Tregaron.  Bonnie likened Dick and Greg to Lincoln’s victorious general Ulysses S. Grant, “who forced the developers to lay down their swords like Robert E. Lee at Appomattox.”  On behalf of the Friends of Tregaron/Tregaron Conservancy, Bonnie gave Dick and Greg a framed, beautiful photograph of the Twin Oak taken by Cleveland Park Citizens Association President and Conservancy board member George Idelson.
