Ever since the Tregaron Conservancy restored the lily pond in 2009, a pair of ducks has visited every spring. The handsome mallard paddles around the pond and eventually the more subdued female lays her eggs. The nest is hidden in the large mahonia bush next to the pond. Unfortunately, dogs have picked up the eggs in the past, treating them like tennis balls and dropping them into the pond. We are hopeful that this year, dogs will stay on leash and out of the pond, allowing the eggs to hatch. We would like to see a batch of ducklings survive for the first time ever at Tregaron.
