The Old Lily Pond Has Been Restored!

April 30, 2008

restored lilypondOur most recent ambitious project has been the restoration of the old lily pond located near Klingle Road. After cleaning out 50 years of sludge and trash, we discovered the bottom was cracked.  Before the rebuilding could begin, we had a historic stone mason “harvest” the original stone caps around the pond’s edge.  Then a huge amount of rebar was set in place for the structure, followed by 25 dump trucks filled with “shotcrete.”  After the lining was filled in, it was covered in apoxy — a water sealant.  Once the extensive repair work was completed, the original stone caps were replaced.  Next, the pond was filled with hundreds of gallons of water. Nearly 70 large beautiful aquatic plants were added.  All of this cost over $100,000.   Goldfish and a pair of ducks became residents. We also planted many beautiful bushes and flowers around the pond and stone stairs that lead to the resurrected marble overlook. The lily pond, with its overlook and new benches, is a gorgeous focal point of Tregaron’s landscape. Please come visit our restored lily pond, located near open Klingle Road.
