Natural History of Tregaron

Tony Fleming gives talk at Rosedale

The Conservancy is fortunate to have Tony Fleming as one of its experts. Tony is a highly regarded geologist and hydrologist who grew up in Cleveland Park exploring the Tregaron woodlands. He has graduate degrees in geology and geophysics, and is the author of major geological studies and maps of the District of Columbia and environs. Tony currently resides in Indiana, and offers biannual geology tours of Tregaron.

Tony’s “Natural History of Tregaron,” draws on his expertise in regional and local geology to provide an in-depth study of the Tregaron’s natural features across the millenia.

As Tony explains, “Tregaron is an incredible neighborhood resource. With its deep ravines, old woods, and elegant landscape architecture, it is singularly responsible for much of the environmental ambiance that defines this section of Cleveland and Woodley Parks. Tregaron’s landscape is a veritable showcase of geologic and ecologic features and processes that include outcrops of some of Washington’s oldest rocks, unusually large crystals, an ancient channel of the Potomac River, architectural use of native building stone, a biologically diverse landscape, and many environmental issues related to the interface of water and infrastructure in the urban environment.”

Tai Chi with David Harold- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays

Free

Weekly Tai Chi Practice led by David Harold on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9-10 a.m. The group will gather west of the Lily Pond (or in the nearby Twin Oak meadow if the Conservancy is hosting another event). The nearest entrance is 3031 Klingle Road NW.

Note: The program will only be canceled in the even of heavy rain, high winds, or thunderstorms, or if David is unavalible. Cancellations will be posted on the pop-up notice on the website home page.

No registration is necessary, but participants will be required to sign our standard release form at the start of the session.

David Harold has been practicing Taiji and Qigong for over 40 years for much of that time. He has studied both in Yang and Chen styles. He is retired from a career in psychotherapy and human services management.

David is passionate about making Taiji and Qigong practice and principles accessible. For 15 years, he led a free, weekly public outdoor practice in Winston-Salem, NC. That practice continues to be led by his students now that he has moved to DC. David is now particularly interested in using Taiji principles to build embodied peacemaking.
