Happy Thanksgiving! We`re grateful for our many dedicated volunteers (including Georgetown MBA students who volunteer with us twice yearly), partners, landscape professionals, supporters, and visitors! Thank you for the many ways you engage with the Conservancy and bring vibrancy to Tregaron year-round. #volunteers #volunteerspotlight #mcdonoughmba #lovetregaron
Big thanks to master weed warrior Danna McCormick @rockcreekimages and amazing volunteers from the community for removing dozens of large invasive honeysuckle shrubs (and vines) this weekend!
Come springtime, with plans from @hawthornegardendesign, we`ll be planting native trees and shrubs in these newly-cleared areas. #volunteer #invasivespecies #nativeplants #lovetregaron
Every spring and fall, Tregaron volunteers host students from our local elementary school for storytime and guided hikes. It means a lot to see the students delight in nature learning AND bringing it back to the classroom to create art and poetry! #naturelearning #outdoorclassroom #naturelovers #getoutside #lovetregaron
Today we`re celebrating the birthday of Ellen Biddle Shipman, 1869-1950. Shipman began her career rather late, but soon became known as "the dean of women landscape architects." She was part of the first generation of women to break into a largely male profession. Shipman lectured widely and ultimately designed over 600 gardens across the U.S. Tregaron (then The Causeway estate) was the largest of her "wild garden" designs, and it is the only one that is still open to the public. We draw inspiration from her design genius every day. #landscapearchitecture #gardendesign #landscapedesign #thisplacematters #lovetregaron
October has been a special month for the Conservancy in welcoming community for music, volunteer projects, and of course leaf peeping. Enjoy this slide show from Tregaron Unplugged, held on October 4, in partnership with @washingtonperformingarts Mars Arts DC initiative.
